Today my 2004 330cic was invaded by Bavarian Gremlins. For the last month or so (as some of you know) my passenger mirror goes in and out. Sometimes it is just the tilt-down parking aid that craps out, and sometimes the entire mirror stops working. Today both happended!!!

The weather was so beautiful today here in Hollywood, I had to take the top down. As I lowered the top, the rear quarter windows would not go down....when I raised the top, both front windows will not go up. In addition to this, the auto up and auto down feature for the windows is totally inop. The "all-window" button on our cabrios that controls all 4 windows has also completely gone out. All this was "supposedly" fixed 2 months ago when all my window relays were replaced (when the car was barely a month old :-o )

Also... I am almost at a 10 second delay waiting period for my tranny to engage from R to D.....my ZF Made in Germany transmission....not the GM one.

What is going on with BMW????? Mercedes is so punishing me for dropping them...this is a conspiracy from Stuttgart!!!!!!

Totally frustrated, sad and depressed in Hollywood [V]

I feel for you, I really do.......I say the same thing that Gremlins invade my car on a monthly basis with all the nick picking things that constantly go wrong.......but I've come to the conclusion still...............that I absolutely love this car with all his quirks and idiosyncracies........... [clap] [clap] [clap] the silver lining is that I have a great dealership with a sense of humor too about this beast.......

Window problem

I had similar window and rear view mirror problems. The mirror problem, I believe, was self inflicted as I may have used too much pressure when spraying my mirrors during a rinse. Water may have been forced into the housing somehow and for few days, until everything dried out, the mirrors seemed to have a mind of their own.

If you use a pressure washer to clean, try to avoid the interor mirror housing. Try keeping water away from it for a few days and see if that helps. It did mine. I've been using a hose with a spray attachment to clean that part of the car and the problem has not recurred.

My 'gremlins' with the windows came on the day I took delivery of my 2004 CiC. The all-down button worked but the all-up did not. It got to the point where the all-down button only worked on 3 windows and I had to use the individual buttons to raise the mirrors. I took my car in to the service center and they indicated that the 'rebooted' the software. It was not noted that a part was replaced, so apparently it was a software problem.

What still bugs me about my windows is that the passenger window does not go down all the way, as the driver's window does. I was told that this is 'by design'.. but they couldn't give me a reason as to why it would be designed that way. [rolleyes]

Well that's just plainly wrong...make them fix it. If you're out of warranty, give the tracks some Gummyfledge (or whatever it's called) before the dealership tries to convince you that you need a new motor (like my stealership tried to do to me).

Build date is 12/03. It is a 2004 model year, and I took delivery in March 2004. It was basically built, shipped, sent to my dealer, and I bought it. I do for a fact have the German built ZF transmission...but according to the BMWNA factory rep only the GM built trannies slip. Odd how I have the same exact pattern. They lie, just like Rick330cic was told things are "designed" not to function right. I mean, come on... we all know how us Germans like to do things half-assed :-0 Yeah right!

I too have the German ZF transmision and it slips. Mine was built in 6/03. I sat down with a SA at the dealership about a month ago and they claim they know nothing about ANY slipping transmissions in ANY 3-series!!!! Un-bleeping-believable. Honestly I don't have the time or trust to just drop my car at the dealer to let them "test" it. I don't know what to do just yet. I am very frustrated.

Sorry to hear of your mirror and window woes. Thank my lucky stars that mine work fine so far.

As a side note, my X5 is out of warranty and the mirror and seat memory has never worked right and each time they fixed it, it reverted to acting bad sometimes.

Morning BMWrocks!! That is totally unbelievable that a SA could look you in the face and tell you that they know nothing about slipping trannies. Even when I called BMW 1-800 customer Assistance, the confessed the problem.....maybe not so honestly...but at least they acknowledge that their is a sliptronic issue.

Sorry to hear that you have the slipping transmission too. Mine was perfect for about a month after I took delivery. Then one morning as I backed down the driveway, and put the car in D, I noticed a very slight hesitation. I guess I kind of repressed the idea of a sliptronic....I put my mind in "rape Mode" :) It has been getting worse for the past 2 months. After my mirror and window fiasco....I figured as long as I have to leave the car at the dealer, I might as well get it over with. Just try another dealer....I'm sure Florida has a million BMW dealers like we do....we have about 5 in a 10 mile radius!!!!

Our 2004 X5 4.4 seems pretty good, but the minute you put the key in the ignition the A/C comes on by itself. The dealer kept it a week, along with a factory rep visit....and they still don't know why and how it does that. Gotta love Bavarian technology....Bayerische Technologie.

Anyone think an 04' 330i build date 3/04 will have the sliptronic??????

Reminds me how when I walked in the salesman tried to move an 03' 330i (msrp 40k) for $37.5k I bet I could have talked them to let their "very last 03 model" go for $35k. Thing is the build date was 12/02 I was willing to bet money it had a sliptronic so I rejected the offer. Jeez BMW..... [screwy]
