If you watch the video closely this is some pretty awsome driving. The guy new what he was doing. Not to say he had some luck mixed in as well.

I think my instincts would have been to head off the cliff heading
forwards, because his choice to turn sideways would have been a
real mess if he went over the edge -- the car would have rolled
4-5 times at least. But going over straight, it probably wouldn't
roll over.

He gambled, and won, but it could have been a costly gamble
if he had slid another foot sideways and rolled over the edge.

Having watched it once more, I think he's pretty much in control. When the car starts to flip over, he steers left to avoid falling on its side, then the car flips over to the other side, he touches the brakes, the car lands violently on the ground, but slides towards the cliff, he does an opposite lock and accelerates, and the car stabilizes. But still he was way too fast for that corner in the first place. A corner of which the run-off area is a cliff!

Very little luck involved. That dude is skilled. I've seen those car control demonstrations where they drive on just two wheels all tipped over. That's what this guy did. Dude has some mad skills.
