Yo Group,

How ya doin? In line with the recent gas griping threads, I made an effort the other day to drive my car like a granny in an effort to see what kind of mileage I could get. I reset the mileage calculator on the computer and set out home after work. It's all highway, with some hills for about 30 miles.

It was painful as hell to drive the car barely touching the gas pedal. But in the end, I got 28.7 MPG!!!!! Pretty goof for a six, considering the motor revs pretty high on teh highway.

How about the rest of you? Ever try to see how good your mileage can be?
It's tough to do, since these cars really WANT to be driven hard. My car HATES to be
under 3K on ther tach.

I only have 300 miles so I'm still breaking it in (not driving it hard at all). 40% city, 60% highway is getting me 27 MPG.

You noticed the tach revving pretty high on the highway also? I was just short of 4k RPM at 85 MPH. Apparently that's normal on the 325.

Computer said I was getting 28 mpg. That was my best. It was basically, get off freeway, fill up, moderately accelerate back to cruising speed of @85, and then exit freeway to regas and determing mpg. Prolly could have gotten higher if I went 55mph, but I wanted to get to SF in under 10 hours.

I average 31MPG at 75-80 MPH cruising for 100 miles trips to Portland. It's a flat road mostly. My absolute best was 36.1MPG for a stretch of 35 miles at speeds of 65MPH in traffic....

All data according to the OBC. In town I get 23-25 MPG.

Driving gently to get the best gas mileage is not even worth it. It's too boring and I'm never impressed with the results. I hide my fuel economy calculator so that I'm not influenced to drive more gently or anything like that. [:)]

Right on MrE, how true. One of the many things that impresses me about BMW is decent gas mileage while always having my foot in it...[thumb]
