BMW had some problems with condensation/water sitting
in the air conditioning ducts, and smelly mold growing. An
aftermarket solution was available ($600), which was basically
a fan that ran for a few minutes after the engine shut off.

Could what you're seeing be a new BMW 'feature' to solve the
smelly mold problem? Were you running the AC?

Mine does that "occasionally" too once I shut off the car. It eventually turns off after about a minute. I believe it's suppose to do this though.

[thumb] I drive a 2000 323i and I had the same problem and the fans continued running was costing me battery life. I ended up replacing the fan motor assembly housing. It was relitively cheap to replace, I believe it cost under $200.00 for the part. It took under an hour to replace. Just my two and a half cents worth. Happy Motoring...
