I just purchased my first ever BMW, a 2004 330i with performace package, the dealer told me that the car is bluethooth ready. I have no documentation that relates to this. It is not listed in the manual or anywhere else!
Could someone please help me fiqure out how to set this thing up to work with my bluetooth enabled cell phone. I have looked at other sites and know that only certain phones will work. My phone is not listed but it has just been released by Motorola(i870). I would like to try and see if it works.

I do not have the Nav computer upgrade, but I do have the steering wheel buttons and the mic factory installed.

Can anyone please tell me the procedure of how to do this or direct me to a site that has the manual docs.

Thanks

PS This is my first BMW and I can understand the reason why all BMW owners are always smiling while behind the wheel.......What a great car! [:D]

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....but Bluetooth will not work in your 2004, unless you disable the BMW assist, and then pay to have the Bluetooth module installed. You will lose your assist feature though. 2004 3 Series, 5 Series and X5s were supposed to have standard Bluetooth, but there was a SNAFU for some stupid reason with the BMW assist. As far as I know, your only option is to have the dealer disable and remove your assist feature, and install the Bluetooth module (which I think is quite costly). Sorry. Good Luck!

That's pretty crappy... I like how the term "bluetooth ready" is used so losely by dealers. Thats like saying a car is "flight ready", but you just need to install the wings, engines etc. Bluetooth ready makes me think that the car is ready to have a phone connected right away, not after installing a module and disabling another. Oh well... crappy mc-crap crap.

Many threads and posts on this subject. Possibly if your car was built after March 2004, it has a combination Assist/Bluetooth module. Check in owners manual case for a BT card with a 4 number passkey for pairing. If you have this, you may be in luck; my car had a combo module that I swapped out for a BT only module. My car already had the BT antenna installed under the back of the console; you could check for this, too. I likely goofed up on the pairing procedure. I did install the pairing button. Supposedly if you have the BT already, it goes into pairing mode every time you start the car or turn to Acc. I have given this info to others, but have never heard back. Part of me is tempted to put my original module back in and see if it works, but it was kind of a hassle and my BT module works great. We may never know.

That said, if you can handle the install, the BT will work great--voice dialing by name or number, radio displays number/caller ID, .............
