Hi, I'm new to this Forum and have a question about the bluetooth features on my car.

I have a new 2006 330i and wanted to know if anyone has been able to load their phone list from a smartphone to the iDrive? I had a regular bluetooth phone and it worked great, but the smartphone doesn't.

Thanks! [wave]

A smartphone is a phone with Windows Mobile loaded on it so you can check email, view your calendar and load all your contacts straight from your Outlook files. It has bluetooth and I can sync them, but I still have to go into my contacts in the phone to place a call. I just can't get the address book to load on the nav system.

I believe your phonebook dosent load on the nav system because when the bluetooth from the car does the searching... it searches for SIM contacts... not phone contacts. Or vice versa... im not quite sure which one. But maybe if your phone has a sim card try transfering the contacts to it. if that doesnt work, im guessing your phone is too elaborate for the car to find the contacts. I have a sony ericsson k700i. It works fine with my phone, But then again its a very simple phone. Hope i helped.

Think I'm going to trade in my Smartphone. The dealership said I have to wait until new software comes out before it'll work with the car. But they also said you can't use the Bluetooth feature on a car with BMW Assist and no iDrive and that's not true. Thought I'd ask the experts. [thumb]

I'm pretty sure my BT reads my phone and sim contacts. I just deleted some numbers, so tomorrow I'll see if it reads the current phonebook, ie--updates each time you get in the car.

not sure about the other stuff, but SIM cards are only present on carriers that use GSM networks, mainly Cingular and T-mobile. so i don't think the SIM card argument holds water.

as for the smartphone's contact list not going though, it might be a memory limitation on the car's end. since a smartphone has a PDA functionality, and would carry way more info on their PIM (personal info manager) than a normal phone's PIM would, iDrive or whatever stores phone numbers may just plain refuse it.

off topic, but is anyone waiting for the moto Q? that thing is hawt!! the thinnest and coolest looking qwerty pda phone.
