There isn't a cradle for the bluetooth kit. Since the kit uses the wireless Bluetooth standard to connect to the phone, you can have the phone anywhere, in your pocket, your gym bag in the trunk, buried under CDs in the passenger seat.

Here is the DIY so you can see all the details of the install.

Thank You......I did not realize a craddle would not be necessary. I have checked out a few phones but so many options. What phone would you all recommend?

Thank You

Along those lines, does anyone have the Sprint PCS service with the Sony Ericsson T608? It's the only bluetooth option from them. I'd rather not change providers because of the limited bluetooth availability and I don't care at all for the Motorolla that BMW integrated phones use. My wife has one (work provided) and the reception is absolutely shitty.

I've got the Sony-Ericsson T616 from Cingular. It works fairly well.
I need to check out my install because the sound is getting garbled occasionally and I'm not sure if the issue is with phone reception or bluetooth communication between the phone and the car.

We are a lawfirm in NJ seeking to bring a class action lawsuit against BMW regarding the bluetooth availability of 2004 models. If you are interested in being a class representative, please send me an e-mail. You must have a 2004 model year BMW with BMW assist and want the blue tooth capability.

Thanks.

Can you give a little more info about who you are?

Also, what damages could be recovered from it? All I want is for them to both work together.

I don't even care if they work "together" I just want BlueTooth. I asked BMW to disable my Assist feature in favor of BlueTooth -- ordered the parts from the dealer... was told they'd work, then at the time of install they changed their story and refunded my money for the parts. I just want it installed and don't care whether or not Assist is part of the deal.

I'm also pissed that they bothered to include a BlueTooth passkey with my car as part of the delivery package. If the car was never intended to be BlueTooth compatible, why did they include this card? It's like rubbing my face in it. Very frustrating.

how odd, one would think passkey= bluetooth enabled.. [???]

as for the OP's question, as long as bluetooth is on for your phone, and is within 10 feet or so from the transiver, you are good to go. bluetooth phone really depend on the type of carrier you are using. i'm w/ att and i got he t616, i really like the design of the phone, but dun like the practical aspects of it. i'm thinking my next phone will either be a slider or a flip..

My Siemens S55 works fine. S65 should work well, too. Actually any BT-enabled phone should work fine. I recommend you to buy a cradle for the phone, too. Before you buy a new phone, make sure its cradle is available at your BMW dealer. Not every dealer carries stock of all brands.

I'm getting the new Motorola RAZR V3 (too cool to pass up) phone Saturday and would love it if it would work with the car via BT. I'm even considering that $500 kit; I need to find someone competent enough to install it; I wish I could know ahead of time if it would work.

By the way, if it did work, would the radio display be part of it, like dialing or caller ID. (I do NOT have Nav.)

Bry,

I may have some good news for you next week. I have pretty much the same car as you, and my BMW dealer has relented and will yank out assist and swap it for the BT module for $345. We were going round and round on this and I finally showed him Adam's instructions and he couldn't deny that it was possible any longer.

The only caveat is that I have to sign a disclaimer and hold onto the assist module and turn it in when I sell the vehicle.

Don't run out to your dealer yet. Once mine is installed and working, then you'll have some more ammunition :)

I'm assuming that number is just the instalation fee since the parts will cost more than that.

drkeng,

The RAZR V3 does work with the BMW bluetooth. I just terminated my contract with Verizon (because of the lousy V710) and started a new contract with AT&T/Cingular. Since I'm an employee of Electronic Arts, we get half off any phone and accessories, and 10% off our rate plan every month through AT&T/Cingular, so it was worth the termination fee ($175) Verizon charged (plus AT&T/Cingular split the cost of the termination fee with me).

The RAZR V3 worked the moment I paired the car and phone in the parking lot. I made 4 calls on the drive home, and each time the sound was very clear and the people on the other end could hear me loud and clear.

I have tried 4 different phones in my BMW (Nokia 6620, Motorola V710, Sony-Ericsson T608, and now the Motorola RAZR V3), and the only one without any issues is the RAZR. The address book synced right away, and I have yet to have one problem with it.

Just thought you'd want to hear from someone who is using a RAZR.

sorry to jack the thread, but: RAZR V3 is HOT!!! pricy as hell, and i know it'd last only about a month in my hands, but the phone is sweet. i wonder about the perfomance, since it looks more style over substance..

puck, how much did you end up paying for the phone? i was thinking i'll either get the V3, or the new sony/ericsson slide phone once my contract expires.

Yes, you'll see contact name or contact phone number on your radio display. The music will be blocked when you receive or make a call. I say, get it installed NOW!!

Puck:
Can you confirm that the radio displays the caller ID??
Which aftermarket kit did you get (and from where) and who installed it?

Lucky me; called Verizon and my contract expires tomorrow!!! [clap] They said Cingular may even give me a temporary number to use until my old number is "ported" over (same as wifey's with different area code; she stays with Verizon). Heard the built in speaker; it sounds pretty good.

Looking forward to the RAZR; will get the new HS 850 earpiece, too, said to be improved from 810 and 820.

Most providers give you 30 days to port the number over. AT&T ported my old cell number from sprint last month after I'd had the phone 2 weeks. I had to wait for the sprint contract to expire before doing it. The process took just a few hours from my call requesting it to the completion of the transfer, though they said it could have taken until the next day.

Hi all, I have been watching this whole bluetooth issue since August when I dropped $500.00 on the Moto V710 phone. I have a 2004 325 with bluetooth and I have decided that yes the whole passkey provided / no bluetooth issue sucks big and I have decided that laying out 500.00 for the parts (Module and pairing button cost) and yes you need them both - is just not worth it for keeping my phone in my pocket. if someone legit is doing a class action I will join.
