Hello,

Im considering buying a BMW 323i in the years 99-00. I have in the past owned a 97 honda prelude, 98 Eclipse GSX, and a 95 honda civic. Im thinking about moving onto a BMW 323. My particular range im seeing with this car is roughly 50-60k miles at around $17,000. Is this over priced or about right? (looking dealer and private)

My question is, what are some big things that can break or have possibly already been fixed before i buy this type of car. I mean, im looking for estimates on how much this cars going to cost to own. Is this a good part of the Cars life to buy it considering its relativly low mileage. Help a new potential bmw owner out. thanks

Good car and a solid engine....make sure it has new shocks as they start to go around this time....as long as engine is up to par with all maintenance performed you should have a solid car.......

My 99 328i

About a year ago I bought a 99 328i that was in near new condition with 82,000 miles on it and I paid 15,400 for it. It's a great car and I love it. Although I hardly ever get to drive it since it's my wife's car [:(]

2k 323 owner here, bought it at 42k, I'm at 65k now, 1 1/2 years owned. Things to look for on a car this age:

Stock suspension wear - may need to replace depending on previous driver style (shocks) - mine were flat at 42k when I bought it.. Control arms/bushings. These typically go around 45-60k miles. Mine are due (bushings).

window regulators - if you're under warranty - get em fixed while you can. these start to fade around 4-5 years old. $300 to replace outside warranty.

45-60k is brakes time. If the pads haven't been replaced yet, now is the time, and likely rotors as well. (It depends on driving style, and what sorta 'pads' you use, but pads/rotors seem to go around the same time, some folks are lucky to run 2 sets of pads before it's rotor time).

In 1 1/2 years, I've only had a camshaft sensor flip, and a rear window regulator 'blow up'. Other then that, and brakes (It was time for me too) she's been fitfully free of problems!

[thumb] Dude, I like your plan, I've got a 2000 323i that I bought brand spankin new in Europe. I've replaced a window regulator, the clutch, transmission, control arm bushings, all three belt pulley's and brakes (two sets of pads/one set rotors). My next repair will be to replace the suspension with new shocks/struts and lowering springs. I currently have 164,665 on her and shes still going stong. My only advice would be to have it checked out by an independent BMW service shop before you purchase. Finally make sure you get you get your scheduled maintenence done at regular intervals along with oil changes. Happy Motoring... [driving2]
