Is it just BMW or do other cars behave strangely when starting up in the cold? One would think since Germany has a cold weather climate and lots of snow that their cars would behave well in the mild winters we have in the Northeast.....[???1]

I also have a feeling that American cars behave much better in winter. A lot of times people have a German car for summer and an American car for winter.

My '03 325 doesn't do too bad in the cold. But then again, the single digit temps have not hit yet. A beautiful 30 degrees today. The bimmer is garaged, and turns over nicely. However, it does require some pre-warming and if you decide to leave immeadiately it will reward you with a sputter if you try anything but a nice and easy launch out of the driveway. My Expedition will do the same sometimes.

Well, my '87 325 does fine in the cold weather we've had so far - starts right up and idles at about 1000 rpm for the first 2 minutes or so, then the idle drops back down to the normal 700ish RPM. I just get in the car in the morning, start it and go - no sputtering or anything. My Camaro, on the other hand, will consistently start, immediately die, restart, and has to sit and idle for a good 7 minutes or so (to get a water temp of at least 150 degrees) before being driven if it's freezing temps outside, but that's a different story. [;)] Gotta love carburetors!

well when i go to school in the mornings, lately it has been around 5-15 degrees. I start with the clutch engaged and the car immediately revs to about 1800rpm's, then it drops to 1200, and revs to 1800, it does this abuot 6 times then settles at around 1000rpms for a while, then idles down at its usual 500rpm.

the one thing that really pisses me off though is that the BMW CD changer won't work real well until its warmed up a bit, it even says in the manual that it won't function properly under 32 degrees fahrenheit.

My car is great during winter... except for the first 5 minutes of cold mornings when I have to hold the door while driving for it don't close. Otherwise, its perfect. I never drive aggresively in the morning anyways.

P.S.

Got my new laptop today. [hihi]
