GENERAL INFORMATION
INTRODUCTION
These installation instructions were produced to give the installation technician all necessary information to properly install the BMW Alarm Kit into factory pre-wired 1999 MY 3 Series (E46) vehicles.
These instructions were developed by the Product and Service Engineering Department of BMW of North America, Inc. specifically for BMW vehicles and are not to be compared to any existing products for vehicles other than BMW.
These instructions were complete and up to date at time of issue. Any changes in the vehicles or problems noted by installers should be reported directly to BMW Product and Service Engineering Department.
Read all instructions carefully before proceeding with this installation procedure. Instructions dealing with a stock part of the vehicle, but not given in detail; should be referenced with the latest service or diagnostic information provided in the DIS Tester.

ALARM INCLINATION SENSOR MOUNTING
Refer to Figure 9 for the following installation steps.
1. Remove cover end of emergency fuel filler flap release pull cord and let the cord pass through the access hole of the RH rear trunk panel.
2. Remove trunk trim panel retainer above the RR wheel well area. Partially remove the RH rear trunk panel enough to gain access where the two 6mm threaded studs are located for mounting of alarm inclination sen- sor.
3. Remove M6 nut (item 5) from the forward position M6 threaded stud and temporarily remove plastic trim piece (item 4) allowing free access to this threaded stud.
4. Mount inclination sensor/bracket assembly (item 2) over the two M6 threaded studs (item 3).
5. Reposition plastic trim piece (item 4) over forward threaded stud (item 3 forward) and secure the inclination sensor/bracket assembly in place with previously removed M6 hex nut with oversized captive washer (item 5) on the forward threaded stud.
6. Use supplied M6 hex nuts with captive washers (item 6) to secure inclination sensor/bracket assembly to rear- ward threaded stud (item 3 rearward).
7. Locate and terminate 6-position inclination sensor connector (item 1) to alarm inclination sensor.
8. Reassemble all displaced or previously removed items.

ALARM MODULE INTERIOR MOUNTING
NOTE: Before proceeding any further, make sure your hands are clean to prevent soiling of headliner.
1. Remove alarm module cover by gently prying it down from the headliner.
2. See Figure 10. Mount the alarm module to the alarm module cover as shown. NOTE: The arrow indicated on the module must be in the same direction as arrow on the cover.
3. See Figure 11. Locate and terminate 4-position interior sensor connector to alarm module as shown.
4. Position alarm module/cover assembly so that the arrows are pointing forward and reattach the assembly to it's mounting frame in the headliner (the arrow on the mounting frame should also be pointing forward).

INTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR MOUNTING (IF REQUIRED)
1. Deternilne if the vehicle is equipped with an interior rear view mirror with infrared (red LED alarm status indica- tor located or' the base of the mirror). If so, you can continue on to the Central Coding Key (ZCS) Procedure.
2. If the interior rear view mirror does not have a red LED alarm status indicator, then it will be necessary to order P/N 51 16 8 209 149 as a replacement interior rear view mirror.
3. Remove original interior rear view mirror.
4. Install replacement mirror with red LED alarm status indicator.
5. Locate 10-position connector in the forward center headliner area (above the microphone cover).
6. Route this connector forward beyond the leading edge of the headliner so that the rubber boot is positioned on the forward edge of the headliner.
7. Connect the 10-position mating connectors together in the interior rear view mirror support base and install the base cover.
CENTRAL CODING KEY (ZCS) PROCEDURE
When all of the above work has been completed, the retrofit anti-theft alarm system needs to be coded with a DIS Tester. Coding is possible with Version Cl 3.0 or later software.
1. Connect vehicle to DIS Tester.
2. Turn ignition key of vehicle to position 2.
3. Select "CODING/PROGRAM" selection on the right side of the DIS Tester screen.
4. Select "3 ZCS CODI NC" followed by the RH green arrow. The following informational screen will appear "Coding by means of central coding code (ZCS) Version Cl 3.0". Select the RH green arrow.
5. The following informational screen will appear "NOTE: ZOS encoding can be overwritten by the modifications made by the CAR/KEY MEMORY program. They can be reset if necessary" Select the RH green arrow.
6. Select "7 E46 Series" followed by the RH green arrow.
