BMW Performance Package

I'm considering buying a 330 with the performance package. I've read a report where the 330 with the perfromance package can do 0-60 in 5.5. It has equally impressive braking and handling performance. I was just wondering how it performs in the real world.

I would say the big asset the car has is handling; it is superb, in my opinion, to many other cars on the road. However, it is lacking in acceleration I think but I think the overall package is good and the handling does make up for what I feel is only moderately-good acceleration given the price. It is plenty of car for everyday, fun driving.

There is no way this car does 5.5 though.

More like low-mid 6's on a good weather day. A Manual could maybe get a 6 sec with a good driver. (Mod free car)

Hmm.. checked on BMWUSA, surprisingly enough, they say the PP is a 5.9.. Thats (good) news to me!

Acceleration 0-60 mph 330i 6.4 (7.0) [5.9] sec

6.4 = Manual
() = Auto
[] = PP

The car does have power, but I get more of a power "feel" from other cars like the G35. I guess this is what I am saying; after driving some other cars in the class then I drive mine the power feels so-so, ho-hum- bit of a drag. I'd like 50 more HP for a real power feel.

Actually, I don't remember the mag, either Motor Trend or Road and Track. They did a test on the 330i ZHP and got 0-60 in 5.6.

That seems quite do-able since they state a 5.9 for the PP. a good expert driver can coax a few more .1's out of a car then the 'stats' they post for normal drivers. I wonder if by PP they meant ZHP, which is 10hp more.. Heck even 10hp doesn't explain a half sec difference from a regular manual, must be different gearing or something..

Bryan - maybe that's the constant torque pull throughout your RPM's (so-so accell feeling?), most Jap imports pull at higher RPMs, thus a bigger feel of 'pull' as the RPM's climb.

That could be the case. I also still wonder if there is something wrong with my car. I know a couple of people here have mentioned a dead spot on acceleration. The dealer tells me this is a common complaint and it’s just the car but I still question if there is more to it.

Do you have a manual ? Manual is much more responsive

I just finished the break in period ( above 1200 miles ). I noticed a big difference in acceleration when getting above 4000 rpm.

I never head of ZHP until I joined this board. I have owned two bimmers. How did I miss out on this. Do the dealers advertise these models. Even when you build your car on the BMWUSA website, is there an option for the ZHP package? Maybe my salesman figured I couldn't afford (he'd be correct) so he just didn't bother to mention the option.

I missed this one too. Actually it was in front of me but the salesman was thinking of my wife too and at the time the ZHP only came with a stick. But I think the ZHP are not a hard sell and they need to move the Sport and Premum packaged 330i. FYI, I've had the car for 5 months now and she has not driven it even one time.

Isn't ZHP the BMW internal code for the performance package? I am taking delivery of a 330i ZHP in one hour, and in working with my sales guy to try and find a 330 with performance package, this was the code he searched for.

I also asked him to look for Performance / Sport combinations. Interestingly, he found 20+ ZHP models (with manual tranny), and only 1 Perf/Spt model (again, manual tranny) in the Midwest. He told me that because the cost is roughly the same between ZHP and Perf/Spt, they've been selling more perf/spt packages.

I have had mine over a year and my wife still has not driven the car.

It was cool when I first got my car because there were few around. I would get stopped all the time, mostly by other BMW drivers, but now these cars are showing up everywhere.

I picked up my Silver Gray ZHP coupe yesterday, and I have fallen in love. It is gorgeous and so much fun to drive, despite being in the break-in period. I got the sunroof, black leather, Xenons, bluetooth, aluminum OEM pedals, aux. audio input. Today I tinted the windows and got a clear bra installed. Here are some pics. Sorry about the quality; I'm horrible at photography.
