BMW Universal Transceiver Programming Problem

I successfully installed the BMW Universal garage door transceiver in my car. I have two garage doors with two identical openers in my garage. I programmed button 1 to open one door and button 3 to open the other door. It worked fine for a few days, then button 1 began to open and close BOTH doors at the same time. I erased the transceiver and reprogrammed the buttons as before. Again, it worked properly for a few days, then the one button would operate both doors simultaneously.

Any ideas how to program the transceiver to operate each door with its ownbutton and make it last?

You probably have newer garage doors that feature "rolling code". When you program the HomeLink, you have to program each button twice so that the garage door motor assigns a specific "rolling code" for each HomeLink button...that is probably why you are having that problem.
When you program each button, first you have to program it from your garage door's remote control. Then you have to go up to the specific garage door motor and push the "training" button (usually referred to as "Train" or "training" or something along those lines) on it and then program the HomeLink button again.

Thanks for the info. I did follow the steps you suggested and the doors worked fine for a few days, then one button began operating both doors. I do have the rolling code openers and there are "smart" buttons on the opener. The instructions said to program the homelink from the remote, then press the "smart" button on the opener, then press the button on the homelink for two seconds, release, and press again. Are you saying that I need to program the homelink from the remote opener, then press the "smart" button, then again program the homelink from the remote?

I appreciate the advice!!!

If you follow the instructions that came with your transceiver, it should work. I have two BMWs each with a transceiver. I also have 2 "rolling code" garage door openers which I programmed into both the transceivers using the instructions that came with the transceiver. They have always worked perfectly in both cars. I even have button 3 programmed for the gate to my community, which is NOT of the "rolling code" type.

It is disturbing that they work for a time, then start to behave differently. I'm stumped on that one.

Note that when you press a tranceiver button programmed to a "rolling code" receiver, the green LED will flash rapidly. And when you press a transceiver button programmed to a standard receiver, the green LED is steady.

You might want to try and get them to warranty/replace your transceiver in your car, as it may be faulty.

As a side note, why do they call it a "transceiver" when all it does is transmit signals, not receive/process incoming signals? And programming does not count as receiving......

Good question about the word "transceiver." Maybe it's "transceiver" because it learns the codes by receiving them from the remote? I have followed the instructions to a tee, and the homelink did all the blinking and flashing just as the instructions said it would. I assumed it was working properly as it DID, but then it decided to do what it wanted to.

I called Homelink's help number today and they said they know what the problem is. They want me to phone them from home and they will walk me through the steps. They said it would take too long to dictate the steps to me. I think they said the steps would involve erasing the codes from all remotes and the homelink and then "training" them all together. I'll post the answer from Homelink next week if the steps aren't too involved.

I spoke to a rep from HomeLink. She was familiar with the problem. She said the trick is to unplug one of the garage door openers while you program the other, then reverse the operation. In other words, unplug the opener that you're NOT programming, and do them one at a time. I followed her advice yesterday, and so far so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
