I would just ask them to turn it off, they should do that without charge. I stopped replacing those redundant sensors a long time ago...I haven't used them since about 2001.

There is a way to bypass the sensor like stated above but there is no reason to do it. For one the sensors are not that expensive. for two i find them very helpful becasue they let the pads get down to minimum spec before they come on. To turn the light off just leave the key on for about 30 to 60 seconds and that should take care of it as long as the sensor is new and plugged in.

Thanks Nathan56989 ,
your tip worked. I also find the sensor very helpful. I change front and back sensors just could not get the light out on dashboard. Again thanks

Hi,

I just installed new rear brake pads on my 2000 328i, but the indicator on the dash is still on.. I have been driving with the indicator on for a few days now... Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

there is a brake sensor cable that you have to replace as well, i believe. when the brake pads get worn down, the cable is designed to break, thereby triggering the warning light on the dash. so, u have to replace both the brake pad and the sensor cable, which i believe is a bmw-only part- ie no aftermarkets equivalents available. make sure u check all the connections are firmly in place, then drive around a bit, and the brake warning light will go out by itself, cuz sometimes it doesn't turn off right away...

Thanks guys! It worked... I had to leave the key on for about 30-60 seconds on the third position.... without turning on the engine. The break pad indicator went away. SWEET!

how much are those brake pad indicator sensor cables and also does anyone have a link to how to bypass them?? most after market pads have squeal pins on them so i usual replace them when it squeals i would rather not have to keep buying sensor cables and turning off light in this damn car..
