When I got my e30 my brake lights would always beon, and since I got it from a guy I wanted to have a shop fix her all up before I did anything myself, so anyways they said a braket for the wires was broken or something and was shorting the conneciton. Now on my Error panel by the sun roof my brake light light will be on until I tap the bakes once. The auctualy tail lights work fine and its not really a problem, just wondering why it does this.

Thanks

As far as I can tell, that is how the system is supposed to work. The way I understand the owner's manual, the check control light for the brake lights is supposed to be on until you tap the brakes for the first time after starting the car.

Quoted from my 1987 325e's owner's manual: "With the ignition turned to 2 or beyond, the central warning light on the instrument panel will flash. At the same time, all Check Control inscriptions light up, together with the "Brake lights" warning light. ..... If the brake pedal is depressed, the central warning light, the "Brake lights" warning light and all Check-Control inscriptions should go out if the corresponding systems are in proper working order."

Hope that helps
