I heard about this problem before buying our new BMW and was wondering what everyone uses to clean it off everyday. Is there a wax or something that can be appied to the wheels to stop that ugly black powder from sticking?

thanks!

i bought the wheel cleaner from my dealer for lil over $7 for the bottle. it seems to do an ok job, with just spraying the wheel w/ water, then squirt the solution, wait 15, 20 secs then rince off.

i only had one application, but next time i clean, i'll actually be using a sponge to wipe off the brake dust while the soultion is applied, then rinse off. better suggestions would be appreciated here also ^^

clean it, then wax the rims. The brake dust comes off easier when you do that. If you wash frequently (once a week), the brake dust usually won't have enough time to cake on either. I have a wheel brush and I haven't had any problems getting the stuff off with just water since I clean every week.

BMW brake dust is insanely annoying. If you don't keep up with it, CAKE doesn't even begin to describe how it accumulates. Everyone who has ever owned a BMW will testify to BMW brake dust woes.

I am gonna try waxing the wheels because cleaning all the nooks and crannys is so tedious. I do not look forward to the task.

I have seen this Wheel Wax stuff, has anyone ever used it? What do you guys wax your wheels with?

Yes it can be a pain, but whenever I clean my I just use a sponge or a cloth piece - wet it - and wipe the rims, it comes off easily. Ofcourse, sometimes the black dust can also make the car look stealthier I think...looks cool sometimes :=)

i clean mine everytime i wash my car ...

i use a giant pipe cleaner ... got it from bavauto.com

i also remove the rims/wheels every 3000 miles and wax the heck out of em ...

if you do remove the wheels ... remember to torque your lugs back down to spec

Soap, water and medium wheel brush seem to do the trick. Waxing is a must. Just remember that wax will melt off fast as the wheels get hot. I use a polymer-based wax (i.e. Zaino :) ) that tends to stay a bit longer. Wheel Wax probalby does the same trick.

OEM pads are annoyingly dusty (BMW now uses Jurid pads). It took me >30miles to get the wheels gray again. Axxis Ultimates are more gentle on the wheels with lighter color dust. Rinses off much easier too.[driving]
