brake pads

The check brake pads light came on today so I guess it's time to replace them.....i've got 2 questions, first, does anyone know how long they're normally supposed to last? (i know that most of the time it depends on driving style, etc) and also how much bmw brake pads are....btw, i've got a 2000 328i and i just hit 33,000 miles...

It really depends on the car and how and you drive. But you can look at your brake pad and just clearly (well not that clearly) see how much pad you have left. If it helps at all, we have to change the brake pads on our ML500 and this is the first time and it has 19,000 miles on it.

Aftermarket pads are cheap... I just bought two sets - front and rear and they all cost me about 80 bucks. I bought them at www.europartsdirect.com
