FYI, anyone here interested in buying a new (2004) e46 4 door sedans, there are great deals here in california.

example: i went and bought a black w/ black with automatic and moonroof (no other options) for 27345 plus tax and license. msrp was 31120.

plus u get 2.9% financing if you have good credit, free maintance up to 50k, etc.

i see alot of people shopping for a used bmw for like 27k, for that amount, i rather get a new bmw (with minimal options) for 27k. i dont need all them fancy options (that is just me).

if u need info on couple of dealers in north california and LA area who will sell at those prices, email me at jasonreserve@yahoo.com

Hi,

I'm new to this board, though I have been reading the threads for several weeks.

You people in the states are very lucky - you get to buy BMW cars at $27K+.
I just took delivery of a BMW 318iA Sport Edition two days ago. The price here, in Singapore, is about US$78K, and that's low in the present poor economy. Two years ago, the same car would have cost close to US$100K.

Isn't that cuz of taxes? I know most Asian countries have pretty insane car taxes compared to the US (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand for example).

Yes, all those taxes. We also have this item call Certificate of Entitlement (COE) that acts like a license to own a car. Cost of COE is by open biding. The government only issue about 2000 such certificates per month. It is valid for only 10 years, i.e. you can only use the car for ten years. The idea is to discourage us from using the car too long - assumption: older cars breakdown more often and causes inconvenience to other road users.

The imported cost of my car is only Sing$45K. My subsequent purchase price is Sing$140K.
