I'm looking at a few new and used vehicles but just can't justify myself buying used. Some of these vehicles I'm looking at have anywhere from 25K to 40K miles on them. I know people buy used all the time. However, this is a big purchase and I don't want things to go wrong with the car. Should I buy new or used? Thanks for your imput!!

[thumb] I bought new and have had an amazing expierence thus far... I've had only one problem to speak of after 135,000 miles and that was my rear passenger window wiring going haywire. I heard folks around the site talk about the good expierences they've had with CPO bimmers as well. I suppose I believe that if you get a car and take care of it, it will take care of you. All things being equal there are just some lemons built by every car manufacturer. If you buy used, buy from a reputable dealer that has a long standing good name in the community, all things being equal you also want to look at a new car dealer through the same narrow constraint, long standing record of good service and community service. BMW's historically have a history of good service if they are maintained. Some bimmers are going to have more problems than others... CPO bimmers are the closest thing to new bimmers. If this is strictly a money question, I'd find a CPO bimmer at an outstanding dealership and buy it. That's my two and a half cents... [driving2]

I bought new too, but I think used BMW's are a great buy. You get someone else to pay the majority of the value in the first 3 or so years. Then you have a nice car that will easily go to 200,000 miles. The certified pre-owned programs are cool cuz you get an extended warranty. If you buy from an individual I would definitly pay the $100 to take it to a dealership and have them give it the once over to see what might need to be done.

I always buy used CPO vehicles- let someone else take the hit. The CPO is 6yr/100k warranty. Just be sure the vehicle has not been in an accident.

We bought my wife's '01 330cic with 50kmi from a local dealer. Car was certified pre-owned (4yr/50k more miles) and has been relatively flawless for over a year. They reconditioned it so beautifully, you had to REALLY look to see that it wasn't new. I would do this again in a heartbeat and intend to as this car approaches 100kmi. But maybe an M3 next time . . .
