I have E46. I would like to try and replace my Camshaft Position sensors myself. Anyone know where they are located? I will be changeing spark plugs this week and would like to do this job also. In addition, is cylinder one first in front or in back?

I wouldn't worry myself with cam sensor's unless 1 fails. They aren't too tough to replace, the exhaust ones are the harder to do. Each sensor is going to run about $100, you really want to replace 6 working sensors?

Thanks for your replies. Yes I have E46 2000 323CI.I have 175k on it now. Waiting for new coupe to come out. Hopefully this fall. Engine light was coming on and off since Dec. Now on all the time and calls started to run badly. Went Adv Auto. I have banks 1 and 2 O2 sensor failure and Camshaft Position sensor A Bank 1. I was going to change spark plugs and camshaft sensor then take it in for O2 sensors.

That sounds healthy to do, and pretty normal items for that milage and year. If you get those O2 sensors and cam sensor replaced, your car will love you (It's not getting air, and on top of that it's 'flooding' - the cam sensor is causing timing misfires).

I believe that is an intake sensor (A Bank 1), and that makes alot of sense if your O2 sensors are failed as well. Go clean that baby out she'll purr like new!
