I've got a 325xi and the car will randomly just shut off on me. I can be driving 50 miles an hour down the road and it will just shut off. Car will start right back up. There is no check engine light and the shop is trying to tell me that it is the MAF sensor. I thought I'd get a check engine light for the MAF sensor. Shop also said something about a possible ground wire being loose. Anyone ever heard of this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'd be more inclined to believing a ground wire. The MAF sensor, I don't think will cause the car to shut down without some warning (rough riding, stalling, etc). The problem sounds electrical.

1. Check your battery terminals; make sure the clamps are on tight.
1(a). Do a check of the power coming from the battery, the power in the terminal cables, and the power from the terminal itself
2. Check to see if the posts of the battery are clean
3. Look inside the engine bay for any loose wires that are affixed to metal (grounding wires)

I had a similar experience on a different car; turned out that the terminal for the batter was not conducting power properly. It was too corroded.

Good luck.

Pulled the codes below. Is this the same as a TPS(throttle position sensor)?

P1638 Throttle Valve Position Control; Throttle Stuck Temporarily
P1639 Throttle Valve Position Control; Throttle Stuck Permanently
