Car starts to violently vibrate/shake when first started up

hey guys,

Any of you had this problem before?
It started to occur when the temp would get colder and when the car stood without being driven for a while...so finally last night @ around 40 degrees F. after standing for about 5days no driving, i started it up and it began to shake/vibrate pretty bad, after which the service engine soon light came on.

In the past afte the shaking started, i started to drive and it went away.....but this time im more concerned and afraid to take it for a drive thinking it maybe something seriously wrong with car. Dealer is pretty booked, so i have to wait a lil while before bringing it in.......

any ideas on what's going on and how serious of a issue im looking at here?

I beleive the oil is draining out of your hydraulic lifters is why that problem is occuring. My car had that problem once and that is what I was told. The car will vibrate until that hydraulic lifters fill up with oil. Hope that helps

what kind of car? I believe its the ignition coils are misfiring. There is a recall to all 3 series, x3's and x5's from 2002 to 2005. If you fall on that category call ur dealer for an early appointment.

Go to your favorite auto parts store and have the engine codes scanned there. It's free & painless and it can help you narrow down your problem. Don't let the dealer do things that you can get done for free...

I think you are having ignition coils issue..I got the same issue and dealer replaced all 6 free of charge.
