Yes it is.
if your driving along and rip out the stereo then the engine management senses a power surge from the centre console and shut down to prevent damage!!! its very clever as BMW LA came up with the idea to stop the ever increasing stereo jacking. because of the ricer joyriders wanting to fit there own stereo for their run from the police possibly playing Hip and or Hop![[rofl]](/images/smilies/icon_smile_rofl.gif "ROFL [rofl]")

seriously though it shouldn't affect the car in anyway as long as you disconnect the battery before unpluging everything. I think someone has their wires crossed. what will happen is the stereo will shut off and cannot be used with another car until recoded by BMW (or by the little sh** 14yr old who stole it last week![[nutkick]](/images/smilies/icon_smile_nutkick.gif "Nut Kick [nutkick]")
