Hi Guys and Gals. 1st post and would dearly like some sensible advice. My central locking in being a real pain in the harris. from the key it'll lock OK, Open the boot Ok, but as for opening it! No chance! Super tempremental. I can of course use the key to open the drivers door but can not open any of the other doors manually from the inside. The central locking button by the gear stick makes no difference either, wont open but will lock!Tried changing the batteries etc etc. No joy

Anyone got any ideas or advice I'd be grateful. If I take it to a garage I'll get the usual sucking in of air, chin rubbing, shaking of head and the "Sorry mate the whole system is dead gonna cost you £10,000" etc.

Any help would be excellent as I'm about ready to kick the car to bits!

Has this issue always existed in your car? If it's a
bogus switch, you're only a few bucks in the hole, if
it's an electrical problem, either live with it or get
ready to shell out big bucks.

But even when the locking system 'works' it's a pain in
the arse.

In order to let a passenger in, all the doors must first
be locked (press button once), and then all the doors must
then be unlocked (press button again). I usually end up
reaching over and pulling the passenger door handle.

BMW: how about separate lock/unlock buttons? What's an
extra button cost, $5?

When a friend of mine played around with the relays, making sure that they're all secure etc, it worked fine for a few days. Then it started to play up again. If I have to use the key to get into the drivers side I can't manually open the other doors from the inside, it just wont let me. I pull the levers but nothing happens. Its odd how I can ALWAYS open the boot and lock the car from both sets of car keys, yet it plays up when I open it! I've changed the fuses just in case that was a problem, mande no difference. The main problem is actually opening the doors. So it can't be the motor inside can it?

Really annoying!

For the past few months my 5 series rear door locks have been acting really strange. One week the left one wont unlock, the next is the right. Sometimes both won't work, then sometimes both will.

As of now, both locks have been inoperative for about 2 months, effectively leaving me with a two-door. My mechanic said that because the deadbolts are on, getting the thing apart and replaced is going to cost a fortune; up to 300 bucks in labor- a door. Plus the $89 dollar locking mechanisms, we're talking about almost $800 dollars to open my doors again.

Door Lock Blues

Hey Guys/Gals,

I posted a note similar to this a while back where my drivers side door wouldn't unlock at times but the other doors would. It took the dealership 3 times but they finally figured out that it was the central receiving unit (or something similar to that name I forget the exact one) that had a problem. It was not sending/receiving signals to/from the drivers side door. Once they swapped this out, and remembered to program my remote keys (that would be attempt nbr 4 to finally fix my problem [bash] ) the door locks worked again. Maybe this could be your cause as well. How is it they can make such a sweet driving car but they can't figure out door locks or power windows???? [scratch]
