Hey all-

Recently I drove by a used BMW dealership in Scottsdale, AZ. I noticed that a majority of the cars had chrome rims. These rims where all BMW OEM rims...more specifically the rims that come standard on a newer 3 series. So my questions is. Is it possible to get your rims dipped in chrome? If so, can anyone direct me to a site where you can get more information on this?

Thanks

ask your local BMW dealer who dips theirs...dealerships do it (have it done) all the time.

Are you talking about the used car lot on Scottsdale Road, south of McDowell towards the 202? They have some nice cars there...

P.S. I grew up in Westlake, OH. Parents still live in Rocky River.

Yep thats the one. I was out there last week for work and couldnt help but notice how every car out there had chrome rims. Great place.

So the dipping can be done.. I wonder how much that runs.

Nice.. I live downtown... Picked up my car last month.. was hoping it wouldnt see the snow......ha good one.. Cleveland weather sucks.

Just keep in mind that while you think it looks better, there's likely added weight which can affect your performance. Like upsizing your tire size without any of the benefits. It's unsprung weight, the worst kind.

Secrt4mula,

I'm from Clevelland area also, nice to run into someone on here that lives so close.

The chrome dipping does look good, but it is not that durable. The chrome peels and once it starts it ain't going to stop. It is alittle more time consuming but polishing in my opinion is the way to go. When clean they look chromed, but peeling is not possible. In the Cleveland area there are many places that do polishing, I can try to find some for you if your serious. You will have to go a week or two without your wheels, probubly cost about $250 each, but once they are done, they are done, it is just a matter of washing them like you would a regulare wheel. Chrome is tough, and will peel for sure sooner or later.

especially with those good ol' Cleveland potholes and the over-eager roadsalt patrol [:D]

Cleveland weather does suck, but a nice summer night on the river in the Flats after a game at the Jake is hard to beat...

Thanks for the info... since I will most likely be in Cleveland for the next 6 mos, I will probably hold off on the chrome. Plus I have the 18 inchers and they are pretty shinny.... when clean.

That sucks about the peeling part. You'd think that if you pay that much money to get it done you wouldnt have to worry about the peeling....

Blue- You're right about the summer nights after a Tribe game.... but usually I dont do any driving afterwards.... because i cant feel my legs after about 7 tall ones.
