Cigarette Lighter

Does anyone know if there is a way to make the cigarette lighter only have power when the vehicle is running and not constantly? I have a device hooked up to it and want to leave it plugged in all the time. Also, if I have to have constant juice to the lighter, will that effect the battery at all. Thanks!

Not sure of an option with the car itself, may want to check with Radioshack or some other electronics store that may sell a peripheral w/ an on/off switch that you would plug the device into...
