I'm new to this whole BMW thing. Haven't yet got a repair manual (on order) & the service guide is all in Japanese.
Just acquired a 1989 318i & would like to know more about Beemers. First of all where can I find info on the classification system for BMWs eg 318, E21, E40. Can't find a thing about it on the BMW site or via Google.
Any online maintenance tips?

No doubt will have more questions

if you're talkin about the chasis designations... look no further than my buddy's thread on e30sport.net - http://www.e30sport.net/viewtopic.php?t=6144

here's some helpfull links about the specific differences between all the e30 models - http://www.geocities.com/empower99/differences.html

third of all... welcome to the BMW enthusiast community... and 'round here, we dun call them "'bimmers" not "beemers" ... it's a historical thing... true enthusiasts differentiate between the motorcycles & cars by calling the cars bimmers & the bikes beemers.... don't worry, you'll get used to it [thumb]

and if u want the whole story behind how that came to be, lemme know, i'll give u my quick version [;)]
