I have a 2002 330i, Electric Red and the clear coat and paint is peeling. BMW has already repainted the hood and front side panels (two months ago) but the clear coat and paint is coming off again, not only on the repainted panels, but on the room and trunk as well. They are now balking at repainting (again) and claim this is the result of bird droppings and tree sap. Car is mostly garage kept and washed regurlarly so the bird droppings and tree sap were not on the car long before this occurred. Has anyone else experienced this or have any advice on how to deal with BMW on this issue? Thanks.

I have never heard of paint peeling from tree sap or bird poo... It seems like your car got a defective paint job at the factory. I would demand they fix it, or threaten to hire an attorney.

Or it was damaged in shipping and repainted at the vehicle prep center before dealer delivery.....

exactly what to do, if you just confront them they will have to repaint it, i mean we got a 1995 5 series that has been outside for like 3+ years now and the paint is still doing well

Yeah, even if you don't wax your car at all, the paint is still strong as a mother trucker. It shouldn't be peeling or anything...BMW definitely sees the mistake and is trying to cover it up.

My 1996 Honda Civic has had the clearcoat basically stripped off from those cheapy gas station car washes, and the paint is still fine. No peeling anywhere. Has to be a defective paint job or a bad repaint when it was damaged during delivery or something.

Peeling paint is a manufacturer defect; if they’ve repainted the defected panels and the peeling continues, have them order new panels straight from the factory.
