Clunking noise

I have been hearing a clunking type of noise that seems to be coming from the front passenger side suspension of the car. This is an 04 325I with only 9200 miles on it. I hear the noise when I sometimes go over a bump or take turns. What could it possibly be? Possible suspension problem or something else?

Most probably worn suspension bushings, or bent suspension or steering components. This happened a few times to me. We can be thankful for our excellent road conditions. Supposedly, this issues hardly ever happens in Europe, but is very common in North America. It's bad here in Quebec Canada, where the severe weather variations detoriate our roads and massive potholes are formed. People bent their rims, and suspension components all the time. For some reason, it's worse on german cars. [rolleyes]

I was lucky and my trusty dealer replaced components free of charge under warranty, during my regular Inspection #1 & #2 maintenances. I did not have to fight for it at all. My warranty expires in April 2005. I have become a little more attentive to road surfaces now, and slalom my way around the road obstacles when possible. [bmwdance]

I have owned Japanese cars and SUV,s and never had this issue. [confused]

Bushings are made to wear out...they will have to be replaced eventually...I think most of what I've read on this board says every 40-60,000 miles, depending on driving conditions. But when a bushing goes out you get a metal on metal squeek...a wearing sound as you turn the steering wheel.....not a clunk.

I'm not sure I've ever heard a clunk from the front of my car.

Do me a favour and try this...

1) park the car on level ground
2) Measure the height of the front right indicator from the ground. Just choose any point on the indicator, but remember which point you are using.
3) Now do the same for the left indicator, using the same point that you used for the right one.
4) Don't expect them to be EXACTLY the same but they should be very close. If they are not, then we're in the same boat my friend.

Something's got loose and is rattling and our cars are not quite the ultimate driving machine as advertised. However, if your measurements match then I'm not sure what it is.
