every now and again when i drive my vehicle for a long period of time, my clutch will judder in first gear. the clutch on the car is still very strong because it has a low bite on it, however i had this problem on my bmw 318is too. what is it and can anyone make suggestions to get rid of this problem? Also I have an accellaration issue on my car. in 2nd, 3rd and 4th mainly, the car seems to choke, jerk and delay when i hit the accellarator. At times the car will accellarate smoothly when i hit the gas and at otther times the car will delay and hold me back a bit before picking up. Can anyone give me any advice of any sort? Any help will be greatly appreciated. i drive a 325i se (02)

The problem your are experiencing with the judder sounds like warpage. I assume that when you mean a long period of time, you mean a few hours all at once, and in traffic. Slipping the clutch alot (stop and go traffic) will heat up the clutch components, and can cause temporary warpage. As long as it's not too bad, it will go away whem it cools off. The only way around it is to replace everything, including the flywheel. But under the same conditions, it will come back eventually.

thanks for the advice. How come BMW have never rectified this problem and sorted it out? Will a sport fly wheel and clutch sort the problem?

This problem isn't necessarily unique to BMW, it can happen on any car or truck if the clutch and flywheel get too hot from heavy use. A sport clutch and flywheel can help because they are made for more abuse.
