Clutch squeak when cold???

I've had my ZHP for 9000 miles now (which I love). I noticed within the last week that the clutch makes a squeaking noise when depressing the clutch after the car has sat for a while or overnight.

The BMW dealership stated that this may be due to the lightwieght flywheel and some film on the clutch, and it may requires the clutch to warm up before the squeak disappears. I did recently drive the car pretty hard up in the mountains like it is supposed to be driven...high RPMs and pulling hard in the turns. I drove my last car just as hard and it never had this problem.

Sure enough, the clutch squeak goes away after driving about 5 miles. But is this normal for a car with only 9000 miles on it? I'm taking it in and leaving it overnight so they can assess the problem. My appointment is in 2 weeks.

Any thoughts on this problem. I'd hate to be have to replace a bad clutch due to some innate error in the clutch after the warranty period has expired. Any other ZHP owners that have experienced this? Thanks for the help!

The squeak is in the engine well...I talked to a friend and he said that the organic disk got glazed up.

...does that sound consistent with a glazed disk? Also will that noise go away with time?

Thanks for the help.

Yeah it's quite common for a clutch to squeek or shudder when the car is cold due to what you mentioned before regarding film on the clutch. A clutch with moisture in it's surface will do this until it's warmed through so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Our 325i doesn't squeek but it shudders from time to time, as does my E30. Even the Landie does it too!

I wouldn't worry too much about it but next time you get the car serviced ask the techs. to check it out.
