coolan question

I want to know can I put any type of coolan that you can find in store? I think my coolan is low cause the indicator light up then off and i have see it since.

Make sure you get the phosphate free coolant.

Hi,
To make a long story short my 2000 328i (64,000) was low on coolant three times back in Dec-Jan, 04. On the third time I discovered some milkshake-creamy looking stuff in the radiator. Well, it turns out that I had a blown gasket & cracked cylinder head. After arguing with the unprofessional people at the extended warranty & seven weeks later I finally got my car repaired. Hope that's not your problem, but something to think about.

Dexcool is the orange stuff. It's overpriced and corrodes aluminum Odd that they us it.

I wouldn't add coolant, I would take it to the dealer to find out why it needs coolant or why the light is on. Your car should not need coolant. Warranty, warranty, warranty.

I'm almost certain that BMW does not use Dexcool. They are just overcharging for a gallon of regular old green Prestone ethylene glycol coolant.
