I think the new electronic keys are about $40, and the dealer will verify your identity before ordering (no phone call orders to the service dept, in-person only with ID).

I own a 2000 323Ci and the key needs to be replaced since the remote will open the doors and trunk, but will not lock the doors. I looked at the website titled:

ThePartsYouNeed.com

and the picture of the key they had there for a 2000 model looks very different from my current key. Please look at the images herein. What do I do to order the key?
Did the dealer give me the wrong key for my model year?

Thanks

My dad had to replace one for his 2001 325i. It looks just like the one in the photo MVC-0365 posted by DocNyr. Cost was $114 and change for the key, plus $40 to program it. This was last year (2004).

Hope that helps!

My dealership told me recently that you will need to replace ALL locks after 10 keys are made...this includes the spare emergency key I purchased (@$50/ea). BMWUSA apparently keeps track of how many are replaced.

Also, they did ask for my DL and registration. Also, quoted $240 for the electronic key.
