I was curious if my 2000 323i has an alarm in it or not. I have the "clown-nose" under my rearview mirror, but it doesnt blink or anything...it's just there.

I have the original window sticker and it says "BMW Driveway Anti-Theft System" on it.

If not, does the the pre-wiring of the alarm include a speaker or does that need to be purchased also.

Thanks

Most likely you do not have the alarm. When it's active, the clown nose should be blinking.

The car is pre-wired, but you'll have to buy the unit and the siren - ~$200 from Pacific BMW. Installation and activation should not exceed $50 tops no matter what the dealer may try to tell you otherwise - be firm.

[wave] I have the very same vehicle, except in red... No, you do not have the alarm system. The anti-theft system they are refering too is the computer chip in the BMW key. Proof of the alarm system is the blinking clown nose which includes anti tilt and several other pieces. Akakubi is absolutely correct in the pricing of the alarm package. It's reasonable and the car is already pre-wired for the system. BMWCCA members ususally get huge discounts and there is another discount from most insurance companies on rates for an additional alarm system. Happy Motoring... [driving]

I hate to be a stickler but.......you can have a blinking clown nose and flashing lights when locking/unlocking without the hardware installed or the alarm program installed.

My understanding is there are separate programs for the "light sequence" vs. the "alarm sequence". You can have either sequence programmed exclusively.

Yes, you can have the outside lights blink and the clown nose blink when you lock and unlock car. The dealer changes your settings in the computer to "Visual Locking" option.

It is very simple......no alarm needed.

You may have to try more than one dealer. Some just refuse to do it cuz they claim "it can't be done" no matter how much info you give them.
