Hello all. If anyone has, could they post pictures of custom air intakes they have put in their e30. Feel free to post info on other mods also! I'm just looking for ideas. I have plenty of room in my engine compartment to bring a filter a few inches from the engine I just need to know how to do it. PEACE.

custom..just straight intake? not cold air intake or anything fancy? i guess if you've got some spare time and some craft in your hands. i had neither so i just slapped a K/N on there. its like 20 bucks and if you know anything about your car, its pretty easy to intall-just something for those of us without much time on our hands to consider.[driving]

ya, its a K/N cone filter-washable etc. i'm across the country from my car right now, but i'll get a hold of a digi when i get back and i'll post them somewhere. it looks pretty damn badass, but you gotta be careful when installing it cuz it won't clamp onto the cruise control piece like the stock system does. i used one of those plastic click ties just to hold the filter up...otherwise it bends the whole rubber arm cuz the cone and air flow meter are so damn heavy. it just worries me to have it sagging down. best part is u can just soak it and let it dry instead of buying a new filter. and those rice rocket car n00bs are like "ohhhh cool! k/n intake, what's that 20 horses?" [8] some people...[rolleyes]

one more thing..i have to say i was pretty disappointed with my K/N. i was expecting maybe some added volume and a little kick. i didn't really notice a kick and you can only really hear it when it gets up to around 5000 RPMs. i suppose only the fully rebuilt intakes add volume (audio-wise) to your engine. oh well its still cool. i still recommend it. if intake's on your list of mods, K/N cone filter is like 20 bucks, and for 20, i'd say its worth it.

The only thing that I have noticed is a sharper throttle response, and I guess I noticed better gas mileage although with the sweet intake sound around 3000 rpm+ It was hard to keep my foot out of it. Oh and cops think it sound cool too! Damn law enforcment!

ah yes...but i have so little trust for myself. i could...change my oil and fill my gas tank. sure i'm ashamed of myself, but i'm learning..for the time being, however, no building anything myself that has anything to do with my engine. not until i have the money to pay someone else to fix my mistakes[rofl]

I hear ya. But this thing is just a piece of sheet metal that was cut, shaped and bent after making a cardboard cutout. Really quite simple if you have the inclination. It could even be insulated easily on the inside to keep engine heat from being transmitted through the sheet metal. Anthing you get will have to be adjusted before installation for a good fit anyway. This way you just start with a little more adjusting to do.

It's not like the engine won't run if you do something wrong. You just don't get air as cold as it could be. Not a major loss.

Get some hosing and thread it from the snorkel, and make a hole big enough for the hose, and just put it in there, but a better way, it to get a BMC Cone, and pull the piping all thw way up to the top cause the top is not closed like the K&N, but u will still have the heat shield from the eninge this works damn well
