Dashboard problem

Here is the deal:
A friend has a freind with the following problem:
his dashboard is some how....weird...the speedometer works on a occasional basis, but more rarely than anything else. Of course, the miles are not counted during the "off-times". same is valid for lamps or for the handbrake and brake pad warning lights. But, tachometer, temp, tank and oil etc gauges work fine.

It is an 89 model. anybody knows about a similar thing?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the board doesn't have the odometer on it so no instant lower mileage. It just fixes the speedo/odo problem. If you really want to lower the odometer there are easy ways to do it.

In reality though, the car still has the same mileage regardless of what the odometer says. Lowering the odometer is like making your girlfriend wear a Britney Spears mask when you make love. The only one deluded is you.

Many smilies...

I just resoldered my connections for the plugs on the back of the IC board and now i have cluster lights!! a speedo that works ALL the time. a temp gauge that doesn't fluctuate and lights that don't go off and on!!!

Best solution ever. Total cost for solder iron and solder? $10

BMW Dealership cost to fix it? $600

Satisfaction of doing it yourself? PRICELESS!

That's my favorite kind of fix. No parts, easy and it fixes a cluster of highly annoying problems.

Good job!

only thing is, my speedo started to jump around. i dunno. i'll have to look again. but i can SEE how fast i am going now!!! woohoo

Aslo for some reasons, the orange "shrouds" that go around the backlight bulbs MELTED onto the old bulbs and i had to get rid of them. I put orange colored bulbs where those were nad looks good and no problems yet!!

:)
