Is there any history of problems with diagnosing faults on pre-E46 models?
I''ve experienced some difficulties with older Mercedes-Benz models. Basically, when the car is plugged into the standard workshop computer, no readings are obtainable. The reason for this is that the current Star Diagnosis system employed by Mercedes-Benz is not 'reverse engineered' to cope with older models. As you might imagine, if the computer draws a blank, tracing a fault can then become a time consuming and very expensive exercise.
I also wonder what will happen when the current E46 production run comes to an end and the new Series 3/4 arrive. Presumably, the latter will be an even more complex beast?
