Did I get taken?

Wow after reading some of the posts here I am beginning to wonder if I got taken when I bought my car. In Jan. 05 I bought a 2004 325ci Executive car which had 9700 miles on it. Because it was an Executive it was considered new. It has the premium package, leather seats with HK stereo system. Anyhow just looking at my paper work I paid $34,491.00 before tax, license and extended warranty. I really wanted a 330ci but it was quite a bit more. I believe the sticker price on my car was close to $37,000.00. Also I got the coupe because they had 2.9% financing couldn't get that on the sedan. So did I get taken? I wished I had found this site prior to buying my car. Also the saleman said my car was more expensive because of the paint color Artic Metalic he said it is a new color!! I am in Northern Calif if that makes a difference. Please let me know if I got ripped off. Thanks Bev [rolleyes]

What is an executive car? That sounds like some kind of marketing BS to me...

$35k isn't cheap for a used 2004 325ci, you didn't get taken but you definately didn't get a deal. I hope the car is 6yr 100k certified pre-owned.

It is a Factory Executive car driven by the higher ups. Even though they have low mileage they have not been registered so that is why they are considered new and BMW only offered the 2.9 on the 2004 2 door coupes. If the car was considered used I wouldn't have been able to get that 2.9% which is awsome. I also got the sports package along with the Premium so I guess thats a bit more too. Bev

Don't fret about it. Sounds like you got a nice car...you'll give yourself a coronary thinking about how much you paid...just fill her up and take her on a nice road trip and forget about what you paid.

This is one of those questions that is right up where with "I wonder what would have happened if I would have done this instead of this..."

Do you feel like you got a good deal? Was the service you got good? When you get the car serviced do you get treated good?

When I bought our sport wagon in Dec 05 we didn't get a screaming deal and I don't think we got the Jimmy Dean either. I am excited about the car, love driving and all that goes with it.

I would say don't worry about you. Sounds like you got a fair deal. Drive it and love it. Next time your up for a new car you can refer to this site again and see what kind of a deal you can get then. To me there is more to the car buying experience than the bottom line price. Yes money is important, but intangible things are important too.

Go drive!! [:)]

Bev:

I am looking at a "2004 BMW 3 Series Coupe" catalog and I did not see the "Artic Metallic" color as you had indicated. If possible, could you post a picture of your vehicle? I am curious about this "Artic Metallic". Thanks.

It's water under the bridge now (is that the correct phrase?). Basically, it's done with. Nothing you can do to change it, so don't stress too much about it. I coulda paid a little less for my car too. Not enough to worry too much about tho and since it can't be changed, nothing I could do about it either.

Executive car sounds like a fancy way of saying used car. What executive would only be given a 325ci? Anyways, if that's what a used car was going for, then you got a decent deal. I mean, for a coupe, $2500 under MSRP was a pretty good deal if it were new.

And yeah, post pics of your car. I wanna see this Arctic color. I like the name of my silver though, even if it doesn't look anything like what titanium really does.

Yeah, I took my car in for service on Saturday and saw a large banner hanging saying $4200 off 2005 330i sedans. I'm sure that will impact my resale value short term but I like the car I got and long term, if you're happy, who cares if the dollars are off a little...

How did you get Artic Metallic on a 2004? That colour was not even available on the 2005 3 Series. Artic is a new colour for the 2006 E90. Love the colour...probably the best new colour in a long time (except for Interlagos, of course [;)]

I've heard of this "executive" car thing before, but it was with GM vehicles. I was told that they sometimes install early released options, colors, wheels, etc. to get feedback from "trusted" users before they actually go to mass market. Perhaps this is how the car got that new color?

Thanks for all your comments. I do love the car. It drives so much nicer than my VW Passat. I wanted a 330 but the sales guy said after test driving with me that I wasn't a performance driver. Little does he know! I was scared driving a car that I wasn't familiar with DAH! I will try to post pics if I can figure out how. I did notice in the gallary photos a few pics of someones car in the Artic Metalic. Some people say that it almost looks blue at times but not really to me. I just think it is a darker silver/platnium color. Bev

So you drove a new car responsibly and the salesman made that coment. Don't take it personally. He probably didn't have the car in stock that you wanted and used that as a reason to sell you a car he did stock.

That's BS right there, the 330i is not a performance car. It drives like any other 3 series only it's 1 second quicker, I see women and the elderly in 330's all the time who drive slow and leisurely that salesman was full of it. It's remarkable how they'll try anything to move cars off the lot...

If you love the car than be happy. The "Executive" term sounds familiar in Canada. Their packages are different than ours (why, I don't know). With that many miles on it, I don't care what you call it but it is not new. I also feel your salesman was being a salesman and trying to close a deal with all of his/her mumbo jumbo. No matter what it is, it's a great car.
