Seems legit, but expensive for an aluminum pipe. You can do much better with a different intake (like BFP CF) if you like this style.
www.dinanbmw.com gives a price of $449 for the same intake, so the guy seems to be seeling at a discount but i think i am going to save for a gruppem, much better looking and probably works better too.

thanks

Sorry for my ignorance, but how much impact is there really from the cold air intake modifications? I have seen someone quote a 10 hp. boost at the flywheel, which would seem to indicate that there isn't that much impact where the rubber meets the road.

Exactly. No much on a E46, if you get 10hp on a cold winter day, you're lucky. 5-6 is a more accurate approximation, and most of it is in the mid-upper RPM band. You do gain a bit of torque, get a bit better throttle response and a bit better fuel mileage. The biggest gains are sound and looks.[:D] [thumb]

lol ok so i'll just charge you $400 dollars and you can think that your getting a "better" intake.... whats there to be cheap... filter with pipe.... not hard... that’s the reason people can charge 400 bucks for a pipe and filter cause people you like will buy it [:0] lol jk not to come on too harsh or anything but i just don't see the reason for paying more than you have to... if you can enlighten me on how a 400 dollar pipe is better please be my guest [shake]

thats why i was asking, and honestly, your kit doesn not compare with the looks of the gruppem kit. Gruppem is a very well built and very good looking kit that uses carbon fiber. the kit you are talking about is aluminum pipe with a powdercoat that claims it lowers temerature. i could slap together the same kit you are selling for 20 dollars. also, the kit you mentioned uses a filter called "super red" and i dont think i want my car getting its air filtered through a filter that doesnt have a name brand.

See that’s my point exactly you would rather pay for a name brand when a off brand name brand is most likely better. People know that you will buy Sony or Panasonic because they are name brand, so they slack off and don't make a good product, or like Nokias where the phones are a piece of junk and have to be replaced every year. Which on the other hand the off name brand tries to lour your business through a "better" product, its ok that your just a victim of advertising [kick] its okey its not your falt. Personally i think that you have a point when it comes to looks, yes the gruppem looks nicer, but on performance you have no leg to stand on. Pipe Filter, can’t go right or wrong [wave]

I bought an intake of ebay and it was only 30 bucks. It works fine, doesnt look as nice as the dinan but gets the job done. Pluss it adds a great sound while in higher rpms.

for a car that cost around $40,000, i think that it deserves a quality piece under the hood. why dont you come out with a kit that looks good too and still sell it for $40? [fake] Also, if the engine fails and you have super red on your car and you are under warranty, more than likely you wont be covered, but with dinan you are ok...thats another point. [?|]

That is not true unfortunately. If your engine fails and the dealer blames Dinan parts, Dinan has to pay for your warranty, not BMW. BUT....[fake] Dinan will try to make BMW prove that it was the Dinan part that forced the problem. So until they agree who's fault it was, you're stuck waiting.

Read some of the Roadfly threads to find the exact problems with the Dian warranty. One guy was stuck for quite a while....

When I had my Jetta 2.0, I purchased a no-name $30 air intake and a no-name "Remus imitation" $50 muffler, both off of eBay. The air intake provided a nice deeper sound (as did the exhaust, obviously). I didn't notice an increase of power but I did notice less hesitation whenever I punched it and it felt like it pulled a little harder...but hey, who knows...maybe it just "sounded" faster. I wish I had a G-Tech at that time to actually see if there were any horsepower differences.
Overall, I'm not even a fan of those short air intakes. I prefer those true cold air intakes that bring in fresh air from the front of the car....they are typically more expensive (as there are more materials involved, such as longer piping) but they seem like they would work better since they bring in fresh air from outside the vehicle, rather than hot air in the engine bay.

Thats not my web page, i just bought my intake off there... what it boils down to.... if you pay for what u get... 400 bucks gets u a name brand... 40 bucks gets u the same thing w/o the name... and as for you messing up ur car.. if something happens to the engine your screwed cause i doubt bmw or dian will be really enthused about buying you a 15,000 motor when you only spend 400 bucks on a pipe, and how ever much ur dealer made off of you [poke] . They don't care about u just your money, and once they get it they hold on to it like Jered does to his Subways (you no Jered, who lost like 300 lbs or something like that) [boxface]

You guys are hilarious, and whats even funnier? I am now piping in... I agree w/alex

I myself bought a true cold air intake off e-bay for $39, if I put it next to the dinan and painted the aluminum pipe (that I requested) black... YOU COULD NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE.. plus how many of you drive around with your hood open for looks???

The filters are fine, well worth the $360 savings from e-bay or the $409 from the Dinan rip-off corportation... you guys are really insane.

If looks or filter brand name is that important to you, buy the less expensive pipe off ebay and put a $40 K&N on it..... jeez....

The Dyno chart I have shows a gain of 9.6 rwhp and 8.3 lb-ft of torque. (European Car, Dec 03) AEM cold air intake on a BONE STOCK 2000 328i

God, I sound like a salesman, and I hate them.

Dinan is overpriced and there are much cheaper alternatives available that match Dinan's quality. Dinan's cold air intake doesn't even guarantee any horsepower/torque gains without the firmware download or whatever (which costs you even more loot).
In longshanks' case, the Dinan CAI off of eBay was definitely worth it because of the huge discount, but ordinarily there is no way in hell I would pay $450 for an air intake...the car's warranty means shit to me. When I had my air intake and exhaust and rims on my Jetta, my VW dealership never said anything to me about the mods every time I took it in for service. And, I highly doubt that a replaced air intake could cause any kind of engine failure...the engine is always getting air, whether with the factory airbox or an aftermarket air intake.
