Does anybody know how to disable passenger airbag on 2002 330Ci? Or a BMW services center. I live in Irvine, CA. Due to unexpected baby, I have to find a way to do this or I have to trade my car in for sedan model which I don't really want to. Thanks in advace.

As I understand it, if you have a certain compatible child seat plugged in or the weight placed on the passenger seat does not exceed a certain amount, the car will automatically disable the passenger-side airbag.

I wouldn't rely on that. When you’re talking about a child, I wouldn't place him/her in the front. Most states even outlaw it. You also have to take into the effect of the side door airbags that are stock on the BMW's.

You're right, but I believe you know the passenger side air-bag is disabled when you have the special car seat plugged in because I think it's a light that lights up. Some mommies prefer to have the child in the front passenger seat for easier access to the baby...makes sense so car manufacturers make this possible.
Or at least I think there is a special switch that you toggle to disable the passenger side air bag. Whatever it is, I KNOW that on most cars you have a way to disable the air-bag(s) for the passenger side in a reliable manner. For example, I know the Honda S2000 does not have this feature and some reviewers have brought this up.

Some states require any child under the age of 16 to be bucked up in the back seat and children under age four must be in safety seats that meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard.

Trade the car for a sedan if you cant get the seat in back. I have the seats with the bases that remain in the car. We have them for all cars. You just install the base with the belts and anchors. The actual seat locks in when you set it in the base, no fumbling around in the back tryind to hook up the seat every time. This should work for your current car.

PS..the set-up with the car seat and base will run about $100 to $130, but you can get additional bases for other cars online for about $40.

And rotate the side of the car you put him/her in on, especially the older they get, this will result in a more even biceps workout. [:D]
