On stick's, do you leave your car in 1st or in any gear when parking ? I set my parking brake on and sometimes I put it on 1st gear when I park. I always use my parking brake and 1st gear when parking on a hill with the front wheel towards the curb. On flat roads I just use my parking brake.
Are there any disadvantages with leaving the car on gear ?

Thanks!

well i used to only leave the e-brake on. but the lining of my ebrake is pretty thin, and now i don't trust it so i leave the car in gear with the ebrake on.

i'm not sure why i do it, there was good logic at sometime, but when i leave my car in gear i shut the car down in neutral, then put it in gear. i guess this won't be good if you have a dogbox, but it works for me. let me conjur up some reasoning....

I cannot tell you why but I always put the car in reverse and then apply the parking brake slightly. I do not use the parking brake when I store my car for the winter.

You can leave it in any gear you want but it's better to leave it in 1st. Don't ask me why because I just don't remember. lol

I always pull up the parking brake and leave it in first gear. You leave it in first gear because that's where the ratio is greatest so its really hard for the car to move because moving it would mean turning the crankshaft, which is very hard to do when the car is off. Absolutely no damage can be done to the car when you leave it in first gear.

I used to always put it in 1st gear but I had a girlfriend that used to borrow my car ,and smashed my front bumper after starting it when it moved abruptly forward coz she did not check if it is neutral before starting.

Needless to say, she's not my girlfriend anymore.
