doing up the stereo..

hey guys,

I am currently using the BMW Business Deck..

Have a couple of questions...

If there is an Amp, which im quite sure there is, is it seperately mounted or is it one within the Head unit?
What is its power?

What are the speaker sizes in the front door and rear parcel shelf?
Their respective power ratings?


Am planning on putting in another sub, an alpine..any suggestions on were to mount?
Only for independently running the sub.
Where should i put a sub? its a 10inch one..

IF i decide to run this amp with the sub and the standard amp running the speakers devoid of doing the bass bit now, will that be enough for a good set up with decent music?

and if i decide to bypass or remove(if i know where it is) the std amp and replace it with a new one? a much more powerful one, will the speakers be able to handle it?

Keep in mind the warranty will be voided on your sound system once you modify. The only question I can definitely answer for you right now is that amp is located (separately) on the left side of the trunk behind the lining. The sub for the H/K systems are mounted under the back shelve in the rear trunk. Not a bad place for you to consider... Just keep in mind your speakers may be at risk of damage once you replace your standard amp with something more powerful. Get ready to drop some serious cash if you're going to do it right. Otherwise, your difference in sound quality may be negligable.

I checked out trying to upgrade the whole system just like you are. I decided against it because of cost and whether it was downrigth worth it. I've since sold the 323i that I was going to upgrade and am now glad I never dropped any money into it in that regard. It's a tough sell to get more than a dime more for the car even if it has an "upgraded" stereo. I just bought a 330iPP that came standard with the H/K system. A definite ungrade, although still not that awesome.
