Hi All.
Today I was changing the coolant in my car( 87 325, I6 2.7l engine), but I couldn't find any went for draining the coolant from the block, and I guess I was able to only drain the radiator, cause I filled in only about 5 quarts of coolant mixture, and not 11 as it says in the book...
Is there any other way than running the engine for a couple of minutes????
Regards

Theres a bolt on the engine block between a couple freeze plugs that comes out to drain the block. Should be on the right side of the engine. Pages 7-8 and 7-9 in the Bentley manual.

Running the engine to try to pump coolant out is not a good idea:
- the head needs the most cooling, it will get none = *very* bad
- the water pump relies on water to cool/lubricate the bearing surface
- water pumps do not develop suction, so once the water level drops below the impeller it will not move any water, you will still have water in the block

there's a bleeding bolt on the thermostat housing... if you loosen that the block may drain via the radiator since that would allow air to displace the fluid.

Thanks a lot guys![wave]
The Haynes manual doesn't tell anything about that ...[mad]
I shall probably again try to fully drain the system sometimes soon...

Invest in a Bently manual...I have both and the bently is much more detailed and lots more pictures. There is a picture that shows where the drain plug is for th draining the block!

Goog luck and have fun.
