I guess it is inevitable that soon or later the leather of the driver seat will wear out from friction caused by getting in and out of the vehicle.

I have been taking care of the leather. I put leather conditioner 2x a year, but yesterday I notice there are white lines on leather grain.

Do you all have the same problem?

I've yet to see a perfect leather driver seat on a BMW after a few years. Some wear and tear is inevitable. If you've lasted this long with no marks, I think you're doing pretty good. Mine still looks new only cuz it's leatherette. That stuff's virtually indestructible.

The leather in these cars are all top coated and once you wear threw that it starts to crack and discolor....I have a suggestion...one to clean the seats the right way....then add protection....the best product that I have used on this is Leatherique its atwo step process but worth the hassle....you can also buy factory dye from them to re-dye the leather....I'm currently getting ready to do this on a 98 740iL

As for wear on the leather the drivers seats takes a beating but with proper care it will last just fine....

This is why I went with the vinyl seats. The dealer had two lease trade-ins, both three years old. The leather seats looked a bit rough around the edges, and the vinyl seats looked brand new.

Saved a few thousand bucks as well...

I can agree with you on that one I have a 85...325e that has vinyl and after I got them cleaned they looked great....However there is something about leather and the smell and feel it just requires maintenance

Believe it or not, I use this product. I apply it twice a year, but after 3 years the leather still wears out.

As much as don't like it, I am thinking seat cover.
Do you know a good seat cover?

Thanks!

I'm not giving up on the seats just yet so bare with me....the white lines that you are talking about, are they cracks in the leather? Back to Leatherique you can buy dye to redye the leather for color....there is also filler for the cracks that are available....then if the seat is sagging meaning the padding is not to fluffy I would look at putting some foam padding back in the bottoms.....this requires removing the seats....I have attached a link to the e39 tips page which explains the process for them....I'm sure yours would be a similar process......Lastly if you are still interested in seat covers....I can send you a place that makes new seat covers for your car that are OEM (like) leather covers dyed to match the OEM color combo....its your call but I really don't think your seats are that far gone...compared to what I have seen on Leatherique web site
