My friend owns a new 330Ci and we went to some big parking lot to show him what his car can really do... I took the car for some little powersliding action, and I turned the traction control off (pressed the DSC button so that it will show up in the gauge cluster all the time.. meaning it's off, hope im not wrong cuz if I am this changes the whole story), put the car on steptronic, first gear, threw some ass in the turn, floored the pedal and it started off well but at about the third kick of the pedal the engine wouldn't rev feeling like traction control is still on.. and even after the turn it wouldn't rev up only after about 3 seconds of being stable on the road the engine would rev again...

My opinion was that the traction control still stays on and tell me if I'm making a huge mistake by thinking DSC is the traction control... (what does it stand for anyway)...

Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks...

Try holding down the button for about 3-4 seconds until both the DSC and the Break light on the cluster come on, you're not really turning it off when you just press it once.

No, you turned it off, holding it down just gets rid of some braking stuff. Isn't his car a bit new to be doing that?

LoL, some braking stuff? [rolleyes] Even when you press the button once it turns off DSC, but it turns on the differential braking and there is still some rudimentry traction control on (Dtc), it just takes a lot more to make it intervene than Dsc, say...something like trying to kick the ass out in a parking lot. Turn it All off an you will have NO trouble throwing out the rear, I would be careful if the car is any less that about 2k miles though. If it is, take it easy.

DSC = Dynamic Stability Control. Basically if u loose grip to one wheel, braking will be automatically aplied and power taken away until u regain control..
That's definitly true, but that's only about 1/4 of the whole story, you realize there is alot more going on right?

DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is engaged by default when the system is booted up, and pressing the button once turns off DSC and turns ON DTC (Dynamic Traction Control). DTC is not quite as intrusive, it will use the DBC (Dynamic braking control) to catch the car if you try to kick out the rear end, but wont chop the throttle until the car is in a much more extreme postion than DSC. It also uses ADB (Automatic Differential Braking) when it is enabled, this simulates an LSD. In short, it gives you a little more room to play. If you want your car to be completely free, you must press and hold for about 3 seconds, which will turn off Everything.
