My 330i with sport package with conti 245/45/17 rear tires are almost bald @ 13000 miles. Is that normal??? I dont even beat on it. Thats just normal driving. Do you think the dealer will cover that or I have to buy a set???

Sounds about right for the rear tires of a sport package BMW.
I had to replace my rear tires (Bridgestone Potenza S-02's) on my S2000 at 8000 miles...it is par for the course.

Tires are not covered under the normal warranty. You will have to buy the tires yourself.

welcome Jonnie and Bob.

if you have the conti sport contact 2s they have a pretty bad wear rating. which could be on par w/ your experience, esp if you are somewhat agressive w/ the right foot.

usually you'll have to chage your rears twice per every time you change the fronts in rwd performance cars.

rest of the max perf summer tires. michi pilots is the top dawg according to tirerack.com. i just wish mine came w/ them, instead of the RE040s..

[thumb] I suppose I've had a entirely different experience when it comes to bimmers and tires. I purchased my fourth set of tires for my bimmer at 156,000 miles. The OE Dunlop 2000 tires sucked and I rode with those about 40,000 miles. I next step up to a Dunlop 5000 tire that excelled in proformance, however I wanted to go to a bigger wheel size. I purchased an 18" wheel and went with the Perelli M&S tire which out proformed every tire I have ever driven in all conditions. I got almost 60,000 miles out of the Perelli's and could not replace them because of a national Perelli tire shortage. I opted for the Toyo Proxes 4 as an alternative and absolutely love this tires, rain, snow, and dry condition proformance. I am saying all this to say that all of my tires have lasted minimum 40K with the average at about 60K. I only get my car's alignment checked every 10K to make sure the camber and toe are not too far out of whack because the streets of our Nations Capitol are horrorible. Might I suggest that you get your cars four wheel alignment checked, it might correct your car's tire wear pattern. That's my two and a half cents... Happy Motoring[driving2]

My Contisport Contact 245/40 rears got to the treadwear indicators at about 19K. I replaced them at 21.5K. They were pretty loud by that time though. The fronts are wearing about half as fast. So I am hoping to do a 4 tire change at about 35-40K.

Bald at 13K seems a bit excessive to me based on my experience with the same tires.....especially if you don't drive aggressively all the time.

I'm with BMWROCKS. I have the sport package and my rears gave out at about 20K. The fronts had an uneven wear pattern, so I went ahead and had all four tires replaced at the same time ($1200). What's strange is that I'm at 32K now and the tires seem to be holding up better this time around. I'm hoping to make it to 50K before replacing them.

JonnieTran, you must be doing some SERIOUS pedal mashing to get your rears to wear out at 13K miles. Regardless of what's going on, I hope you're having fun. This car remains the best I've ever owned. I'm just over a year into ownership and am still blown away by the sense of confidence I have behind the wheel. Power, handling, yadda yadda....

Although I do not have the same make and tire size as JonnieTan this is my experience so far. My rear tires are 255-35-18 and the fronts 225-40-18. All are OE Michelin Pilot Sports. After trying several combinations I am running 37 psi frt and 41 psi rear for best all round performance. I have 22K miles on them and while the rears are wearing faster I will likely make it to about 30K before replacing them, however they are starting to get noisy.

Your tires needed to be rotated more oftern if just the back ones are bald. 13K sound very low mileage to be replacing them. I switched my 330i to Toyo Proxie4's and they are great great in wet and dry. I just bought a 2nd set after just over 30K. Toyo are so confident in their tires they will give you your money back if you don't like them within the first 500 mile and i think the first month.

Rotating tires is not an option for JonnieTran. Like me, he's got the 330i with sports package. The rear tires are wider and lower-profile than the fronts and, therefore, cannot be rotated to the front. Wear and replace is the only option.

You would destroy the handling by rotating tires on a 330i if you have the sport pkg or the ZHP option. The car uses staggered sizes and if the 18 rims are on the car, the fronts are 8 inches wide (225-40-18) and the rears 8.5 inches wide (255-35-18).
