My driver's side window regulator is making some nastysounds, and the window is going up slowly. I think Im going to fix it myself. The BMW dealer where I am is rediculous when it comes to the price for repairs. Does anyone have any pointers for door panel removal? Is there a thread that covers it? Ive done it on other cars, but never such an over engineered car like this one. I think I will do it tommorrow (Sunday) so I would appreciate any tips.

Re; Door panel

Hi there...

There are/should be 5 Torx screws (#20) found on the door panel.
3 along the door handle and armrest, one under the airbag clip, and the last one behind the blind plug in the recessed door handle (the door opener).
After that, take a screwdriver in between the door panel and door itself (at the bottom of the panel, to not damage the visible parts of the panel) and pry the panel until it "pops" enough for you to get your fingers between them, and pull it the rest of the way off, being careful of the Bowden cable (which also pops off), and the wires for speakers, light and mirror control.
Removing the vapor barrier is time consuming, and you need to keep the ignition off when you disconnect the airbag and throughout the process so as to not set off the airbag light (reconnect it if you need to move the window up or down).
If you need to replace the window regulator, that's a whole other bag o' fun. The operation differs if you have frameless windows or not.

Hope this helps,
Tiger
