This goes to show you how driver skill and and a good launch plays into a drag race. In theory, the Z06 should have had a distinct advantage. They have run high 12s on street tires at the track with a good run.
The Z06 had a horrible driver.. Lost all traction in the beginning and even shifting into second, so he couldn't floor it. Even a BAD driver in a Z06 should take a good driver in an M3 for straight line. They aren't even a comparison for power... Something is fishy about that vid..
Are we sure it was a Z06? I can see that being a much more accurate video if that were a "standard" corvette.
I guess I don't fully understand but would they not almost be the same. Take the 2001 Z06 and the 2001 M3, the 0-60 in only .2 difference. Not sure what years those are???
The 00, 01 and so on Z06 (it does not appear to be a new one) were only 370-380 h/p right?
Im trying to upload some video but its not working. Can you upload directly to this board? I appreciate your help. I have some great videos to look at.
I don't think the Z06 Driver feathered the clutch through 1st (maybe he didn't want to burn it up or he just is not good). I don't think the step out in the shift to 2nd could have been avoiding. Most big power (torqued) cars do that. The year of the car could have had an effect as the last two years had the 405 horse engines versus 385. Also, I can't see if it is really a Z06, meaning it could be a normal 350 horse Vette (still fast). He may also been short shifting.
Yeah, the Corvette was definitely a hardtop Vette, but I couldn't tell if it was a Z06 or not. It may have been a pre-Z06 hardtop. I couldn't see the mesh front grill, badging, wheels, and rear brake vents that are on the Z06 Vettes.
Sweet video. That race was won completely by the driver. A M3 will still smoke the hell out of the tires off the line if you wish, he just drove it right. I think we all know that with the right driver, the vette would have walked away.
