Electric mirrors still work?

Do yours work?

Mine died years ago - havent cared to open them up to replace gears and motor. Not sure its worth it. To adjust mirrors, i have to push them and they pop into place.

Anyone fix yours? What did you have to do?

Haven't had to mess with mine yet. I don't have to adjust them very often, but they are still kicking.

haha so im not alone. mine are toast (among other things in my cars interior) they died before i bought it. only one of them work and it only moves in one direction. so how do you go about fixing them?

Well, I dont use my mirrors but... yeah on both cars they work fine, they are just really loud

Pretty common problem with e30's I think, mine don't work either.

usually my act-up after car wash, i disco-nect / reconect switch and that kicks em on again

meh, im pretty sure its the mechanics behind the mirror, and not the switch inside the car.
reason is, when the problem started to show up, you could hit the switch and the mirror would move and sound like it was struggling and then start poping like it was skipping gears. I dont know if there are limits to the up,down,lef,and right directions, but it seems jammed and now nothing happens. i dunno.

i was just asking because it seems that it broke quite easily and was a high failure item on the e30's. so maybe someone had experience on how to take the mirror appart so they could post it.

I have two e30s, an 86 and a 91, and neither has ever had a problem with their mirrors.

Mine stopped working when one of the local kids kicked their football at it and snapped the whole mirror off.

I went to a nearby BMW breakers and got a second-hand one for £15. Only took about 5 minutes to change the whole thing - a lot quicker than opening it up and messing around inside.
