Electrical problem with headlights

I have had an on and off problem with my lowbeam headlights...once in a while they decide not to work...when I switch the high beams all 4 go on....but with the low beams Ill go weeks and weeks..no prob..then all of a sudden no low beam...parking lights work..the last position on the knob wont turn the low beams on.....and the fog lights dont work either when this happens...I have checked the wiring and replaced the light switch knob...but this problem still haunts me....if anyone has some advice would appreciate it before I have to sell off a body organ to finance a full electrical check on the car from a mechanic.

I would say a relay

Pull them apart and look for "brokenness" other wise you've got me
