EML light on 2002 318ti

hi,

Just picked up my 2002 318ti StepTronic from the dealer yesterday, and read through the user manual. When I start the car, the EML light comes on and goes away after 5 seconds (all the other lights go off immediately after starting the car). There's no funny noises from the bonnet or any other lights on the dash. Any idea what this could be and is it easy to fix ? ($$$ ?)

If there is a real problem the light usually remains on.

thanks for the reply. have a look at the attached image - the EML light stays on in key positions 1 & 2, and only goes out 5 seconds after the car has been started. Is this normal on all E46's?

I just went out to check mine because I couldn't remember. The EML light comes on and then goes off after about two seconds of the car being on for mine. The airbag light is the last to go off.

EML Problem

Hi,

I do have a similar problem and I have a BMB 316 (2003)

When I started the car today, I saw EML light is on.. Furhter, I saw car is shaking (otherwise, car is very smooth after it's ignition) and I waited for few minutes and stopped it before decide to take public transport to work.

So, what should I do? Is it safe to drive upto my garage....?

EML Light

Does the light stay on after you have started the car, or does it go off?
If the light stays on all the time, take it back to the BMW dealer to have the problem diagnosed.
